Vigil for Iraqi Christians

The recent persecution of Iraqi Christians has outraged people all over the world. There are more than 40,000 Chaldeans and other Iraqi Christians residing in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon, which has one of the world’s largest concentrations of Chaldeans.

WHAT:           Elected officials, community leaders and Christian leaders of all denominations are coming together in El Cajon for a vigil in support of persecuted Iraqi Christians.

The event is being organized by City Transformation, San Diego Leadership Forum and the Chaldean Council for Public Affairs.

WHO:             A number of dignitaries and local officials will be in attendance, including:

  • El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells
  • Bishop Sarhad Jammo, St. Peter Chaldean Diocese
  • Dr. Jim Garlow, Skyline Church
  • Pastor Mark Hoffman, Foothills Church
  • Other local political representatives, community and church leaders

Over 2,000 people are expected to attend the vigil, one of the largest events of its kind. Some will be coming out to support Christians, and others will be coming to pray for family members in Iraqi who are victims of the violence.
